WHAT'S THE SOLUTION?

Controlled Internal Ventilation

Fresh air or energy savings? With the HPV Series heat pump ventilation and our heat recovery ventilation appliances you can have both. Regardless of the age or size of your home, we have the right system for you.

With up to 80% of allergy triggers being avoided with special pollen filters, our heat pump ventilation and heat recovery ventilation appliances can deliver the air changes required for healthy air and optimum energy efficiency. Alongside insulation and modern heating technology, heat pump ventilation and heat recovery ventilation appliances are one of the necessary components in the energy-saving homes of today.

The main benefits of controlled internal ventilation are:

MOISTURE
Moisture generated from bathing or cooking builds up within your home, especially visible on windows and mirrors. This can be avoided as air is extracted from these "wet rooms, eliminating mould and prolonging the life of the fabric of your home.
No stale air ODOURS
As fresh filtered air constantly replaces the stale air inside the home, unpleasant odours won't linger around the house from cooking, cleaning, cigarettes, pets or the bathroom.
Less inviting for dust mites HUMIDITY
Dust mites love to breed in moist environments, often causing allergic reactions to the unlucky occupants of the home. A Genvex appliance helps to maintain healthy humidity levels in your home making it less inviting for dust mites. This is a comforting thought when you consider that we spend 70% of our time, at home.
Remove Pollen ALLERGIES
In Britain, 30 million people suffer from allergies and 10 million from Asthma. Special filters eliminate pollen and allergens before they enter your home. Our optional electrostatic filter can remove particles down to 0.01 microns, removing car fumes and even many viruses.
Secure Ventilation SECURITY
Traditionally we open windows for ventilation. However, in town houses and ground floors, this may not be the safest option for you or your possessions, especially at night.
Reduce Energy Requirements SUSTAINABILITY
A Genvex appliance will contribute to reducing your energy requirements and cost savings will therefore be enjoyed. This is because up to 95% of the heat can be recovered that would otherwise be lost through alternative means of ventilation (opening windows, having trickle-vents in window frames or extractor fans in bathrooms). Waste heat can also be re-used for heating of the air and water.
Enjoy peace and quiet PEACE AND QUIET
Enjoy peace and quiet, by keeping your windows shut from outside noises. Also, unlike localised extractor fans, the Genvex ventilation appliance runs continuously and quietly.
Remove Pollution FRESH AIR
Stale air in your home is constantly replaced with fresh air meaning that the cocktail of chemicals emitted from chipboard, furniture, cleaning agents etc will be removed, creating a much healthier living environment.
Exceed Part F of building regs EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS
Genvex appliances exceed Part F of the Building Regulations requirements and also, quite importantly, they support Part L too. With up to 95% heat recovery and a 500% enhanced efficiency output available, you can feel sure you're doing your bit for the environment, whatever Genvex appliance you choose.

What is Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV)?
(Genvex Energy/Zehnder/Airflow Appliances)
Heat recovery ventilation appliances offer the optimum solution for systematic, energy-saving ventilation of new homes and renovation projects.

Extract Ventilation System A ventilation appliance is usually mounted in your loft or utility area, connected via ductwork to ceiling terminals. One fan extracts stale warm air through these terminals from your wet rooms (kitchens, bathrooms etc) and takes it to the ventilation appliance to be exhausted outside.
Supply Ventilation System Meanwhile, another fan draws fresh filtered air from outside and supplies it through ceiling terminals in the habitable rooms of your home (bedrooms, dining rooms, studies, living rooms).
Heat Recovery Heat Ventilation System

During this process, a heat exchanger within the appliance transfers up to 95% of the heat from the outgoing stale air to the incoming fresh air.

In warmer months, the heat recovery process can be bypassed to ensure that cooler fresh air enters the home.

What is a Heat Exchanger?

A heat exchanger consists of several metal plates. Both airflows (fresh air and stale air) pass over these plates, but on different sides. As the airflows are hermetically separated, they do not mix. The heat is transferred through the plates from the stale warm air, to the cool fresh air side.

Our heat exchangers are constructed out of seawater-resistant aluminium for maximum heat exchange and durability.

cross flow heat exchange

Some heat recovery ventilation systems use a CROSS-FLOW heat exchanger, which can only achieve heat recovery efficiencies of up to 75%. As you can see from the diagram, some heat from the stale air is always wasted.
Counterflow heat exchanger

However, all our heat recovery ventilation appliances use COUNTER-CURRENT heat exchangers, which can reach efficiencies of up to 95%. As you can see from the diagram, almost all heat is extracted from the stale air, ensuring you the very best in heat recovery efficiency.

What is Heat Pump Ventilation?

HPV Series & Genvex Premium Appliances
A Genvex Unit

Heat recovery ventilation appliances are very efficient. However, even higher efficiencies are achievable using a COUNTER-CURRENT heat exchanger together with a micro air-to-air heat pump from the HPV Series & Genvex Premium range.

The heat pump functions like a fridge but in reverse. The refrigerator extracts heat from food, whilst the heat pump extracts heating energy from warm exhaust air to heat incoming fresh air.

If the air needs cooling, the coolant circuit is reversed. The heat pump then works like a fridge, extracting heat energy from the warm fresh air. The fresh air, which has now been cooled, flows into the property. The heat energy extracted from the supply air is transported out of the property again along with the exhausted air.

You can then enjoy the comfort of pleasant cooling and dehumidifying of the air in your home during the summer months.

how heat pump ventilation works

All these transformations together make up the electric heat pump's cycle: the compressor provides the refrigerant with energy, the refrigerant absorbs heat in the evaporator from the extract air and through the condenser, transfers it to the supply air or water.
